*** My latest film is titled "Kismet" and is a documentary about my family's experience on the day of the Columbine shooting 10 years ago. My younger son Jake was there and 8 years after that day he was ready to tell the story from his perspective. It's heartfelt and makes you wonder about how destiny plays into the things that happen in our lives. This is my best film, to date.

Coincidental (WMP9) - My first Group101 film - month one - the theme was TEETH. With all his fears realized, something good might actually come out of a dental Appt.
Stripers (WMP9) - My second Group101 film - the theme was PAINT. The paint stripers work steadily along, performing a valuable service to the world. An interesting group.
Goon Control (WMP9) - My third Group101 film - the theme was GOONS. A tribute to Gilda Radner. Maureen Brooks does her best impression of SNL's Emily Latella in this spoof.
Judy Lindblad plays Jane Curtain. It was loads of fun to make.
Dreamgirl (WMP9) - 4th Group101 film - starring my lovely daughter and a guy just having his lunch and willing to do anything, I mean anything, to just have a few seconds alone
with the girl of his dreams. Theme was CARPE DIEM.
Binary Man (WMP9) - 5th Group101 film - A futuristic sci-fi thriller about the last man on earth who isn't controlled by the Globe One computer. Starring Jessica Loza and
Alan August. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a piece in order to win the game. Theme was MAZE.
Rokman (WMP9) - 6th Group101 film - Based on a true story that happened to me and my 3 kids in 1996, where an old man starting leaving giant rocks in my driveway,
this adaptation by Alan August includes a rock monster and a father who is desperately trying to hang on to his family. The theme was REVENGE.
Guitarist From another planet (WMP9) - Based on a true story that happened in 1997, this story-style documentary details one of the most incredible weekends
of my life and shows why Michael Hedges is one of the all time great acoustic guitarists. After watching all my films here, most people vote this one as their favorite.
Melting time (WMP9) - 7th Group101 film - This documentary walks into the controversial topic of drunk driving and the severe consequences that can come from one bad
decision. Corey opened the story of his life over the last 10-12 years and told all. I believe this film will certainly move you and cause you to think and discuss with passion this delicate
topic. The theme for this month was IMPRISONED.
smooth criminal (WMP9) - 8th Group101 film - For the theme THEFT, I found myself trapped in Houston on a 2 week business trip and no escape in sight. By being a
little creative, I was able to pull off a film this month, after all. Just when you think you're the slickest guy around, you are slapped in the face with a large dose of reality.
invasion of the killer cotton balls (WMP9) - My third attempt in the Boulder Shootout 24 hour fast film contest. This time out I teamed with my incredible girlfriend
Pattie, to write this little gem of a horror movie. It was easily the most fun we've had making a 24 hour film, although the weather was awful all friday night.
Starring the entire family of daughters and related suckers, it was simply a blast to make. We also lucked out and got Erik Brison, a friend of Jakes who is the keyboard player in his
band, to lay down the score. Tomorrow night's the big night - the top ten are revealed at the Boulder Theater.
the lavellas in concert (WMP9) - The full and complete concert filmed on friday, Dec 1, 2006 in Chicago at the Subterranean night club. It was a magnificent celebration
of the www.staythirsty.com website in its fourth month of circulation. The concert is about 45 minutes and has dual camera-switching and 3 sources for the sound. Its a little large,
but the quality is really good and its a really good performance by a band who is sorely missed in Denver since they moved to Chicago 3 years ago.
insight (WMP9) - Everyday I drive past a bus stop where 3 sight-impaired people wait for the bus. On the weekend, I see the same group walking up and down the bike path on the
south platte river with ease. I made this movie to try and create a sense of their world, to a small degree and weave in a story of an overly protected young woman trying her best to grow up
and gain her independence. My lovely daughter Nicole plays the girl and we had a great time shooting everything in one day.
closure (WMP9) - Loosely based on my first marriage where my wife was used to having every little thing done for her, this movie chronicles her frustration when her husband is no
longer around to do all the little things in her life. In the end, she wants freedom but not too much freedom, so she discovers a way to have the best of both worlds.
the lavellas - a retrospective (WMP9) - from the early beginnings in the late ninetys to present day, where they are in studio recording their 4th CD, the lavellas
have continued to grow and expand the limits of their music. This look back takes you on a ride into many clubs, venues and holes in the wall showing the band performing the songs that
define them as a rock band.
lavondry (nexgen) (WMP9) - now, here's a change up. This is a corporate sales video for the Lavondry automated laundry system. Filled with animations, I did this video
to demonstrate the vision of this system, which is extremely environment-friendly and holds tremendous promise for the future.
a bee story (WMP9) - another walk on the documentary trail, this film chronicles my friend Scott Copanas and his bee hive hobby. He talks about why he decided to get into it,
we show the installation of his 2nd hive and he examines the established hive, which is thriving. It's not everyday you find 100,000 bees in a suburban backyard. It makes for an interesting
story, well done by your host, Scott (BEEman).
lost ants in costa rica (WMP9) - From footage I shot on a vacation to Costa Rica in 2005 comes a documentary tale of a 3 hour round trip for a mysterious colony of ants
and their quest to gather the substrate needed to make food for the masses..
oksana ross (WMP9) - an Icon in the art world lives right here in Denver and teaches at the Colorado Free University. Her name is Oksana Ross and my girl friend (Pattie
Fitzsimmons) took one of her art classes at CFU and constantly told me stories of what went on in those classes and how remarkable Oksana was, from her passion for art to her
wonderful stories about her childhood and all the world famous artists and classical musicians she has met. This short documentary is a tribute to her and all she does for people who
just want to create art, in one form or another. We all admire Oksana and will be forever grateful to her for sharing a piece of her passion with us.
jacob - more than words (WMP9) - In 1991, Michael and the 3 kids took a vacation to Phoenix to see friends and watch my brother Dave play in a money tennis tourney.
On the drive back, Jason shot some video of Jacob (age 6) lip-synching the popular Extreme song "More Than Words". Jake certainly can be described as "rubber face". It's pretty funny
and topped off with some cool stop-motion animation Jason did later that year. Enjoy !!!
europe 2007 video (WMP9) - Pattie and I traveled to Europe in September of 2007 and visited Venice, Rome, the Rhine Valley and Mosel Valley in Germany. Here's a video of some
of the places we visited. I hope you enjoy it.

lavellas in concert at the beat kitchen (WMP9) - The full and complete concert filmed on November 15th, 2007 at the Beat Kitchen in Chicago.
It features several new songs and Rob takes off on an adventure playing electric piano. Ironically, the best sound recording came from the muffed surrond sound mic mounted on my
HC1000 Sony camera. Considering Rob's eminent move to Spain, the concerts for the original three of the Lavellas are certainly limited. Cherish all the shows that are left. Enjoy this one.
johann gamblepudding (WMP9) - In 1990, my son Jason was watching a Monty Python skit that contained the longest name/word that exists on earth. He spent a few hours
that day and miraculously learned it. Almost seventeen years later, I convinced him to recite the name, which he still remembers, while juggling on a magical Christmas eve. What happened
is truly amazing. In this film, I recall many of Jason's talents and put his ability to remember such a long and convoluted name in proper perspective.

On Jan. 12th, 2008 the lavellas played at one of the most prestigious venues in all of Chicago as the headliner.
It certainly has been a long time coming for this dynamic band that originated in Denver almost 10 years ago. With Robyn moving to Spain the next day, it is possible that this could be
the last concert the Lavellas ever play. Probably not, but at least I was able to capture it on film. The entire concert is featured right here. Total running time: 52 minutes. We had 3 cameras
setup and I love the whole editing process where I get to pretend like I'm a director at a LIVE concert. I think it turned out really good.

the art of bootlegging (WMP9) - Back about 10 years ago, my son Jason came home one night and asked why Michael Hedges didn't have any live concert audio or
video that had been released. I went googling on the internet and ran across a guy named Charles, which may or may not be his real name. Anyway, over the last 10 years i get together
with him, talk about life and Michael Hedges music, along with all the stories of his bootlegging hobby that has spanned 35 years, since he was a mere lad of 6. He recently sat down with me
and took me back to the beginning of the story where he describes exactly what bootlegging is, why he has always been attracted to it and many, many cool stories that have happened
over many decades of collecting obscure sound and video on artists like the Beatles, Pink Floyd, etc. Total running time: 26 minutes.
the wedding (WMP9) - On Feb. 9th, 2007 , my lovely daughter Chera Nicole was united in marriage with Ricky Lee Stegmaier Jr. at the Chateau in Broomfield.
It was a beautiful ceremony, overseen by Dr. Spencer Gilleon from Tallahassee and the reception followed with crazy dancing and such. I have never seen Chera happier.
Congratulations to Chera and Ricky. I wish you both a wonderful and adventurous life.
the wedding slide show (WMP9) - On Feb. 9th, 2007 , my lovely daughter Chera Nicole was united in marriage with Ricky Lee Stegmaier Jr. at the Chateau in Broomfield.
From a colection of pictures from Dave, Pattie and mostly Ricky's Mom, I put together a fun slide show with funky and varied music. In 10 minutes, you get a great view of the day before and
the actual wedding from many candid shots and the beautiful ceremony.
Ava Mae Stegmaier (WMP9) – Chera and Ricky had a beautiful baby girl on August 30th at 9:28am. She weighed 7 lbs 1.6 oz and was 19 in long.
